As part of the “Our Water Our Future: The Next Stage” of the Government’s Water Plan, the Victorian Government has developed a desalination plant near Wonthaggi to produce drinking water from seawater. The Victorian Desalination Project will deliver one of the largest reverse-osmosis desalination plants in the world, capable of supplying up to 150 billion litres of water a year - more than a third of Melbourne’s annual water needs and ensuring drinking water is available even in times of drought. An opportunity now exists for a Commissioning Manager (HV Cable) to join the Thiess Degremont team on the Victorian Desalination Project.

You will be responsible for the Commissioning of the 84km underground HV Power cable being constructed from Wonthaggi to Cranbourne. 

It is essential you have experience of leading teams through the commissioning phase of one or all of the following Powerlines, Underground Power along with deep excavations and projects that cross numerous boundaries and land owners.  The project itself is being constructed to an accelerated program so experience of working on time-short projects is ideal. 

It is critical you can demonstrate extensive management of the Commissioning and Testing phase with specific experience in Process, HV, Power and Service intense projects.  Preferably you will have Underground Cable experience.

In this role you will develop and co-ordinate the plans and processes for the commissioning and start up of the HV Cable which will supply the Desalination Plant as well as review and manage the implementation and monitoring of the operating plan to hand-over phase.

Whilst the HV Cable will absorb the bulk of your focus it is critical you can how this relates to the entire project.  Your remit will predominantly include reviewing the D&C schedule making sure all commissioning activities are clearly identified and schedule is focused in tandem with this.

You must demonstrate experience of; Undertaking risk impact analysis of all facilities to define critical commissioning activities;  Facilitate a commissioning workshop with team members;  Liaise with the construction, operating and maintenance teams;  Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and how HV has tied into major projects.

Essentially you will have significant experience within this capacity, budget and staff management and commissioning site experiences in HV intense projects such as industrial plant or water treatment plants.
